Here’s another installment in a series of emails that took place between Michael and one of his senior students beginning the Summer of 2009. May you find the exchange interesting and enriching.

Student: It feels like my spiritual path has changed from kind of a desperate yearning into a “no big deal.” It’s actually kind of fun just knowing that any “answer” there might ever be will come on its own anyway whether questioned or not.

Michael: Do you feel disengaged?

Student: Hardly. There is nothing about this current situation that feels lax or indifferent. In fact there is still a great deal of curiosity.

Michael: Does the curiosity burn?

Student: Not any more. It used to be exactly like that; a fire that was incredibly intense, but now it’s quieter as if there’s still an intensity to a kind of fire but it’s easier or something, like there’s no longer any tension to any part of the path.

Michael: When we are fire, we can no longer feel the burn. When we are truly open, there is no division. No division, no tension.

Student: It’s beautiful.

Michael: It is. Now let go of this beauty.
